Tarifa Plana - The Opportunity to Start Your Spanish Business

What is the Tarifa Plana and how can it help me go self-employed?

You might have considered starting your own business in Spain. Whether it be as a self-employed (Autonomo) builder or a limited company (SL). If you were ever considering doing so then now would be the time.

Both as an employee and as self-employed you pay into the Spanish Social Security System and as such, have access to the National Health System. These Social Security payments for being Autonomo are a fixed rate payment and for a lot of people are considered to be too high to able to start their business off. You would have to pay a hefty monthly fee to the SS office right off the bat.

Fortunately, this has now changed thanks to the Tarifa Plana.

In 2014 the Spanish Government initiated the Tarifa Plana - a series of bonifications and benefits for first time self-employers. This system entails a 80% discount  for the first 6 months, 50% for months 7-12 and 30% for months 13-18. Additional discounts if you are a man under 30, 30% for months 19-30. The same if you are a woman under 35.

Exact figures are not mentioned in this article, as they vary hugely according to personal situation, amount of hours worked, line of work etc.

At G. Bryan Expat Solutions, we understand that some people might be apprehensive to set up their business as they might think it isn't financially viable to do. However, depending on your personal situation you might be entitled to these benefits and the Tarifa Plana might just be the helping hand you need.

If you're considering taking this important step then we recommend you consult a fiscal accountant. At G. Bryan we only work with fully qualified and certified fiscal accountants to provide a professional and reliable service.
